Follow-up on May 5, 2006 Transportation Symposium

Kate Vernez with the City of Santa Monica provided an overview of the Transportation Symposium.

Discussion of Westside Mobility Action Plan

Each city agreed to forward the action plan handed out at the symposium to their respective City Councils for adoption.

Westside Economic Collaborative: Westside Transportation Partners Educational Effort

Jason Wiener provided an update on plans for a Westside Collaborative forum on July 28.  The forum will include an infrastructure bond briefing, an update on the Exposition LRT, and the Westside Subway.

Infrastructure Bond Education Program

Anne Marie Wallace, with the League of California Cities, provided an update on the State Infrastructure bond.  She noted that the polls showed the transportation measures currently have support in the 57% range.  This early in the process, support of 60% is desirable.  This shows that an education effort needs to be conducted.

MTA Long Range Transportation Plan

Claudette Moody provided an update on the Long Range Plan and that Metro is considering postponing action on the Long Range Plan until closer to the November election.

Coordination of Lobbyist Efforts

The Committee discussed the pros and cons of working with Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) lobbyists.

Livable Boulevard Symposium Update

The Livable Boulevard Symposium is scheduled for October 6, 2006.  West Hollywood City Mayor John Heilman suggested that La Cienega Boulevard be case study as portions include West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Culver City.  The Committee suggested participants for the Symposium including the Local Government Commission, Nelson Nygard, Deborah Murphy, Lisa Padilla and John Chase.

Next Steps

The next steps are to focus on education efforts for the State Infrastructure bonds, advocacy for the Long Range Plan, and coordination of lobbying efforts.
