General Discussion

The Committee discussed the State of California Infrastructure Bond initiative under consideration for the November 2006 statewide ballot measure.

City of West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman proposed that the Westside Cities pass ordinances to prohibit street construction during peak travel periods.

Update of Mobility Study Priorities

City of Beverly Hills Mayor Stephen Webb discussed that the City of Beverly Hills is forming a Mass Transit Committee.  The Committee will address station locations and route alignment within the City of Beverly Hills.

May 5 Transportation Symposium

Staff informed the Committee that City of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa had a scheduling conflict and would not attend the Symposium.  The Committee expressed the importance of Mayor Villaraigosa attending and agreed that City of Beverly Hills City Councilmember Linda Briskman would send a note inviting him to attend.

In other meeting logistics, staff would invite Richard Katz to speak at the Transportation Symposium regarding the state infrastructure bond measure.  The Committee agreed that local government roundtable would consist of MTA Board member/City of Santa Monica Councilmember Pam O’Connor, Mayors of Beverly Hills, Culver City and West Hollywood, and City of Los Angeles Councilmember Bill Rosendahl.  Staff will invite City of Los Angeles Councilmember Tom LaBonge to participate in the Transportation Symposium.  Staff will also extend invitations to the local press. 

The Committee reviewed the hand-out material for the May 5 Transportation Symposium.

MTA Long Range Transportation Plan

Claudette Moody provided an update on the MTA’s Long Range Transportation Plan schedule.  The information item to the MTA Board scheduled for March was postponed.

Grand Boulevard Symposium Update

Westside Cities staff is organizing a symposium currently scheduled for September 8.   The name of the symposium has been changed to “Livable Boulevards.”

Next Steps

Staff prepared an “advocacy tool kit” advocating Westside Mobility projects as part of the Transportation Symposium hand-out material.  Staff will prepare an action plan upon receiving comments at the Transportation Symposium.
